晦涩的英国式的诗句，意外的迷题灰色的迷雾。人性的迷惑，潜意识的深刻描写。人与罪，罪与罚。充满赎罪意识的自虐。主人公的内心潜意识通过虚幻的寂静岭以显示实物呈现在主人公的面前。主角通过自己潜意识虚幻出的怪物战斗，要面对的是真实的自己，人的精神还真是可怕。JAMES通过在寂静岭的遭遇慢慢揭示自己的心理障碍，其实是JAMES的心路历程，主人公内心深处的自我虐待倾向，自责自己对妻子的死负责，觉得是自己害死了最爱的妻子，JAMES在寂静岭的世界里遇到的鬼大多是女鬼，被紧缚的女体，又表现的JAMES鳏夫三年内心的性压抑。
　　
　　在寂静岭中，所有人都说是JAMES杀害了他的妻子玛丽，JAMES在潜意识中总有是自己害死的罪恶感，通过医院里的女护士鬼来自我虐待，JAMES的妻子死与医院，妻子最痛苦的时间都是在医院里度过的，对JAMES来说医院就想是地狱一样的可怕。整个游戏贯穿了弗洛伊德式的精神分析。希望通过人性的分析来解释JAMES在寂静岭中所遭遇的一切。
　　
　　寂静岭所表现世界观过于灰色晦涩，不同与生化危机系列，营造的视觉，听觉上的恐怖感。他更注重气氛的描写，人性的解析，每个人的寂静岭都不一样，寂静岭通过解析人心的潜意识，达到表现自我的目的。人的一切需求，意识在寂静岭中得到实体化。
　　
　　寂静岭是为数不多的经典恐怖类的AVG。深邃的内涵，另类的世界观，但又不的不说这是个很真实的游戏，绝对的真实，揭露人性的灰暗面，让人不寒而颤的氛围。毛骨悚然的诠释。同过PS2强大的机能表现与现实中相差无几的环境街道，建筑物。觉得与现实又是如此的接近，以至于玩完以后，压抑感久久挥之不去。
　　
　　寂静岭的特色，迷雾，环绕身体周围的浓雾，只有通过收音机来确定自己身边的危险，人对未知的事物的恐惧，造成心理压力，压抑。在颤罹中前进，揭示内心。另类的心理治疗。
